Lawyers for Denis Oland File Documents with Supreme Court for Bail Appeal
Lawyers for Denis Oland have filed documents with the country’s highest court making a case for their client to be granted bail. Oland’s lawyers are seeking to have his bail denial overturned while he awaits an appeal of his second-degree murder conviction. The documents filed with the Supreme Court of Canada argue Oland’s conviction was ‘a very close one’ and that Oland poses no threat to public safety. The high court will hear the appeal of the bail ruling on October 31st. Oland was convicted in February of killing his father, Richard Oland. The New Brunswick Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an appeal of the second-degree murder conviction on October 18th.
