Study of private well water in possible fracking areas released
A major study of private well water in possible fracking areas has been released. The New Brunswick Energy Institute commissioned it with UNB doing it in the Central, Kent, Shediac and Sussex areas. 434 wells were studied in 2014 and 2015, with dissolved methane found in 55%. 99% had concentrations less than 10 mg/L and aren’t of concern. Sussex had the highest concentration at 28.9 mg/L, but there was no correlation between methane concentration and proximity to oil or natural gas wells.
