Sex abuse charges against priests

Sex abuse charges continue to rock the Catholic Church in the province.

Five new lawsuits alleging sexual abuse by priests have been filed over the past month. The CBC and Times and Transcript report that two Shediac men and a Riverview man have filled lawsuits in Moncton court which date back to the 1950’s. Two other lawsuits have been filed in Edmundston.

Meanwhile, a judge has ruled Aviva Insurance does not have to give the Catholic Church $3.4 million it was seeking to pay off victims in a previous settlement of a sexual abuse case involving priests.
