New targets for languages commissioner
The official languages commissioner is taking aim at professional associations now.
Katherine D’Entremont wants anyone who does not receive service in the language of their choice to file a complaint so she can investigate. She’s talking about groups like the Real Estate Association, Land Surveyors Association, Association of Dental Hygenists and so on.
NDP Leader Dominic Cardy takes issue with this approach. He has been critical of the commissioner’s office in the past and says she should be concentrating on services in government…not getting into professional associations. He says that creates problems and a burden that’s unfair.
