Lawyers challenge SCOC nomination process
A lawyers’ group is going to court to try to maintain Atlantic Canada’s traditional seat on the Supreme Court of Canada.
The Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association wants the Nova Scotia Supreme Court to require the federal government to amend the Constitution if it wants to drop regional representation. The association says not having a judge from this region would be a fundamental change in the long-standing composition of the top court in Canada.
