Pipeline protests

Protesters chanting anti-pipeline slogans forced cancellation of the first day of hearings in Montreal into the Energy East pipeline project yesterday. The National Energy Board has also postponed today’s hearings as it deals with security issues.

Three arrests were made Monday, including a man who rushed at the commissioners table at the beginning of the meeting.

The protests were not exclusively anti-pipeline…members of a large construction union which supports Energy East outnumbered the anti-pipeline people outside the hearing.
