The Gallant Government says its new Contraband Enforcement Unit has seized more than 843,000 illegal cigarettes in its first six months.

Since it became operational in April, the 9 person unit has conducted covert investigations as well as uniformed operations around the province.  It is credited with making 17 seizures of illegal cigarettes with the co-operation of local police in Fredericton, Edmundston, Miramichi, Richibucto, Bathurst and Campbellton.
