Consultant to look into Moncton’s homeless
Moncton is hiring a consultant to look into the city’s homeless situation.
It wants to know what is needed to get about a hundred people currently living in tents around the city into safe housing.
The Times and Transcript reports Community Development officer Kayla BreeLove Carter told the Social Inclusion Summit yesterday they hope to have a report next spring so they can begin addressing housing concerns.
The Humanity Project, has given out 92 tents to the homeless since June and at least four tent cities have sprung up around Moncton…people living in groups in tents on land they don’t own.
The Consultant will try to answer questions such as whether these people are transients, just here for the summer, or planning to settle here permanently. It will also look at whether some of them have mental health issues and so on.
