Francophones continue to lag in literacy
Francophones in this province continue to lag behind their Anglophone counterparts in literacy, numeracy and problem-solving in technology-rich environments.
Stats Can has released a study showing Francophones in this province obtained an average score of 259…14 points lower than their English counterparts and at least 10 points lower than Francophones in Quebec, Ontario and Manitoba.
The study notes a large part of this province’s francophone labour force is in industries that are in decline and less likely to require regular use of writing in their jobs. The population is also aging rapidly which impacts literacy skills.
