Saturday’s 80’s Countdown: NOVEMBER 15, 1980

Canada was instrumental in getting 6 American hostages out of Iran. The separation referendum in Quebec was defeated with 60% against separation. CNN launched in 1980 and a tragic fire at the MGM in Las Vegas killed 85 people. Ronald Reagan was elected president of the US and over 83 million people watched the “Who shot JR” episode of Dallas. The Pointer Sisters and British superstar Cliff Richard were on the Top 40 countdown this week 40 years ago.

 

 

Sunday’s 70’s Countdown: NOVEMBER 11, 1972
8 am – 11 am

In November 1972, Richard Nixon was re-elected as US President. The Dow Jones closed for the first time about 1000 points. In Canada, Pierre Trudeau won the election, but only with a minority with David Lewis and the NDP holding the balance of power. Halfway through the fall of 1972, CHNS was playing Johnny Nash and the Spinners.
