This Weekend on Casey Kasem’s Top 40 Countdown

Saturday’s 80’s Countdown: AUGUST 3, 1985
8 am – noon

The first cellphone call made in Canada happened in 1985 between the mayors of Montreal and Toronto. An Air India 747 from Montreal to London exploded and killed all 329 on board. The wreck of the Titanic was discovered off the coast of Newfoundland and you were likely listening to Huey Lewis & The News and Aretha Franklin on the radio.

Sunday’s 70’s Countdown: AUGUST 1, 1970
8 am – 11 am

In 1970 a total solar eclipse affected the Maritimes on March 7th. Montreal was awarded the 1976 Olympics and Canada had the “October Crisis” with the War Measures Act to deal with the FLQ threat. Tanks were rolling down the streets in Ottawa. On August 1st, we were enjoying the summer with some classics with Stevie Wonder and Mungo Jerry.
