A recent report shows automation will continue to thrive and will likely have a significant impact on jobs; and that’s just for starters. A story in the Globe and Mail this week begins with; “A senior Bank of Canada official says while the country’s poised to reap economic benefits from technological progress – it must also brace for potentially painful side effects like job losses and greater income inequality.” While some industries stand to be affected more than others – manufacturing for example – experts agree that as the transition continues, machines will continue to replace workers and retirees, and also point to future new technologies and fields that will need to be filled. What remains to be seen is whether there will be enough of these new positions to assure there continues to be jobs for anyone who wants to work.
