Free Trials For Adults With Dementia Begin March 9th
Beginning next month, the YMCA of Greater Moncton will offer these free trials. “The new program will be a modified version of our Adult Day Program, scaled down so as not to be overwhelming to those with dementia,” says Shannon Geldart, coordinator of the Y’s Adult Day Program and the new Monday program. “We know there are many individuals in our community with dementia who would benefit from this initiative. There is very limited respite for this population so we thought it would be an awesome opportunity to help our community.”
Beginning March 9, the Y will offer free trials from 8:30 a.m. to noon Mondays to give people with dementia and their caregivers a chance to try the program. “We want to provide an opportunity for individuals to socialize and engage in activities in a friendly and safe environment,” she says. “There will be crafts, games and occasionally members of our Y team will be in to do chair yoga or other activities. We’re hoping to help enhance the quality of life for those who take part and provide a little respite for the caregivers.”
The cost of the Monday morning program is $16 per day, including a nutritious snack along with tea and coffee.
