9/11: The Day The World Stood Still

In the year 2001, September 11th was a gorgeous Tuesday all around Atlantic Canada. By mid-morning however. the brightness of the day was darkened by news the United States was under attack by extremists who flew passenger airlines into buildings, and everything changed. Once American authorities realized the seriousness of the situation, and not knowing how many more flights might’ve been impacted, they decided to ground all air travel. This resulted in 2,200-international passengers landing in Moncton NB, a place many never heard of before this incident, and one they would not soon forget. One of the darkest chapters of modern history was cast in a huge light when residents in several cities joined Moncton in making sure these temporary refugees would have their needs met. And so on this day we remember the lives lost, the heroic actions of NYC first responders, and salute the un-selfish actions of hundreds of Metro Moncton Area volunteers and neighbors who brought hope to a dire situation; for on that day the world’s worst, allowed us to be our best. #MonctonProud #NBProud
